Dear Friends,
I am writing a manifesto called “Networking – The Art of Giving to Givers”, and planning to publish it on ChangeThis.
“Giving to Givers” sounds simple, right? Then how is it that so many of us find ourselves surrounded not by givers, but by takers. Takers are people who know best how to use our skills, knowledge and connections to their own advantage, but when it comes to giving something in return… well, that’s a whole different story. Just think what your life would be like if you had a few quality people in your close and immediate circle. People who have built high quality networking systems or hold key positions, who could really help you achieve your goals in life. If you were able to maintain a genuine, mutual value relationship with them, you could have a great team that would be actively “working” for you. It does not mean that you pay them for their help, knowledge, advice or contacts, but rather they will be looking out for your best interests, exactly as you look out for theirs! You are surrounding yourself with people who will constantly be looking out for opportunities- just for you!
If you would like to read this manifesto, please vote (and mail to your friends) here.
Thanks,
Opher.

I just posted about this - it’s the best definition of networking I’ve ever read.

Hi Michal,
I think that a personal story, about the way I started my business, could give you an idea of what Free Agents are.
Before starting the Brayer Group I worked on a small scale, with mostly one-on-one meetings and a few lectures and seminars at companies. Yet I always dreamed of sharing my knowledge and experience with as many people as possible. But I didn’t know exactly where to begin and what was required from me in order to achieve this dream.
I needed to consult with experts, people who had experience in starting companies. Some years ago, I would not have known who to turn to, but after learning from the best networkers and practicing what I had learned from them, I was able to allow myself to recruit the best minds to help me. I spoke with ten people from my network about my idea, each one a professional from a different business arena, and they all offered to help and share ideas and contacts, if necessary. Not only did they help me build a reasonable business plan, but they also introduced me to my first three employees.
My wonderful, high quality network managed to save much time and money. I didn’t need to pay experts to write a tailored business plan, but rather had the best minds help me write it…FOR FREE! Also, take into account that I didn’t need to tell my life story over and again, for these best minds have known about me and my needs for many years, they knew my strengths and weaknesses, abilities and experience. They also saved me time by preventing me from having to read hundreds of CV’s and interview at least twenty people (I only had to interview four at the end of the process!!!).
I hope that this answers your question.
Yours,
Opher
