Lessons from DESTRUCTIVE Management

Oceans11

As I was watching the movie Ocean 11 with my wife on our weekly night out few years ago, I realized that the strategy of planning and implementing the 60 million dollar robbery is a perfect example of management strategy as I’ve been teaching it in the past 2 decades. Of course no one could have presented the subject in a better way. Thank you, Hollywood!

Dapper Danny Ocean (George Clooney), the brain behind the perfect crime, is following the 5 steps of management strategy as shown step after step in the movie:

1. NETWORKING - searching for the right team.
2. MASTERMIND – ongoing brainstorming with selected participants; all focused on the same goal.
3. SWOT ANALYSIS – learning all the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that the project may be facing.
4. DEATAILED PLANNING - building and preparing for every possible scenario.
5. QUICK, PRECISE and most important CERATIVE implementation.

In my daily consulting work I recommend big companies as well as small ones to follow these steps in their management technique.

Are you following it in your management position?

Can you see how the perfect crime and the perfect project can be planned and implemented in the same way? Isn’t that fascinating?

If you haven’t seen the movie, I strongly recommend it and if you have, I encourage you to watch it again and look at it from a manager point of view. You can’t go wrong!

Please share your thoughts with me.

Thank you,

Opher Brayer

Great comparison between that great enjoyable movie and mangement. I really liked to reafd it, I also agree with you.
So what did ocean 12 teach us more about management? I think that a bit of trickery mind can’t hurt in business. Also - sometimes it’s good to pretend to be weak rather than being strong and arogant.
    Ocaen 13 is coming soon….
    I can’t wait.
    Thank you Opher
